69mm X 96mm

Post by dave t »

1.9 and 2.1 WBX rods. 1998cc So if the t-4 WBX has a big end the same size as the T-1 and the small end the same as a T-4 ... stay with me.. could you use the 96mm P&C from a T-4 and use it in a T-1 case? Open the case and heads to match the T-4 register?.

The WBX rods are also T1 length, note T1 deck<>deck is ~20mm wider than a std T4.
(202.5 vs 212mm)

If you can source some custom pistons that have the correct compression height (or at least close) its viable.
Of course those can have any pin size.

In the end...
All the extra effort/expense is not really getting you anything...
...and the factory WBX rods are not all that great.

Now if you need a high revving 1832cc motor, a T1 rod and 94mm Mahle B work out to the correct deck within the noise.
Will need either piston aligned rods on a std T4 crank, or a welded 66 crank set up for T1 width rods.

There is a Toyota V6 that uses same dia rod journal as T1/1.7 T4 IIRC, for 4 Runner, possibly available in better ACL etc bearings.
(Stumbled upon that, wanted to document it before I forget)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Having never tried that, can two type-4 cylinders sit close enough to fit a type-1 head? Without considerable sanding or head stud clearance of the fins?

Seems to me the biggest bores I have seen on type-1 is fin-less 95mm back when drag racing was under the assumption that porsche parts were a cheap upgrade.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I don't think t4 jugs could be made to fit T1 (WAY too short, and head side only sticks up ~6mm)
but the 94 Bs will fit in stock 94mm/2L jugs.

You can run 101.6/4" bores on T1s but they are going to ~touch. ~requires WBX/Autocraft stud spacing.
