Rocker arm/shafts springs or spacers?

I have 8mm and 10mm arms. 8mm you can use aftermarket tips, using these. What do you guys like for the spacers between the arms? I have the springs and washers that came with the 8mm arms, or I just picked up a set of the 10mm arms with wavy washers and thick steel spacers. 494 cam 1911cc (66X96) 1.7 heads. Thanks Dave T

EMW sells a solid spacer kit and 8mm crmo rocker studs.
The aluminum spacers are sand to fit, also has steel washers.
Set it up for ~.004" side play, easiest to do while engine is on stand.

The type4store and aircooled.net may carry these as well.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I got my shaft spacer kit from Jake when he had the Type 4 store. Super nice quality.

I'm pretty sure type4store at least resold the EMW spacers/studs.
Have bought from both sources...They look absolutely identical.

Image , Both are stock set ups, use the 8mm arms on the solid shafts/spacers?

The flat spring washers have been known to fail and end up in the sump.
I have never see the coil spring setup fail directly, but things can move around a lot more which is generally a Bad Idea.
If you can collect enough rocker sets you can set it up with just the thicker washers and the big spacer.
That used to be how you did it...

On a stock or nearly so motor either will mostly work.

The solid spacer setup and the HD studs makes it ~bulletproof, and comes with ~everything you need including more of those steel washers. Use the stock setups on an even slightly modified motor at its peril.

I know that probably wasn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but that's my best answer.

Perfect, the WAVY washers are just like the T-1's that have broken on me in the past. I will check into EMW for the solid shaft set up. I thought there was a discussion about the top set of shafts being better then the bottom set for a little high performance, maybe they were talking about the REAL solid shaft set up. Thanks Dave T

I might have been the one to mislead that the stock hydro spacers were OK for a bigger cam.
The 'cheap junk' build uses those, but it only has a Web 86, which is really mild and has super soft/gentle ramps.

FWIW, the stock hydro set-up does look better than the solid-lifter spring deal.

Your Web 494 is borderline for dual springs, even.. certainly a good candidate for the aftermarket spacers.

I popped for the heavier shaft studs on my Web 494 build.. It's cheap insurance.

Cool, 494 cam I'll upgrade the rocker studs and get the EMW solid spacers. 494 cam border line for dual springs on the valves or between the rocker arms? Thanks Dave T

Its an agrressive cam, and the RPM it can pull as well as its aggressive profile can justify duals as a safety measure, if nothing else.

Floaty valves are not just a performance issue...

Floaty valves generally really beat things up.
Floaty Valves Bad.

494 almost justifies T1 lifters with bronze bushings in the case.
Compared to a T4 Web163, I'm not sure which beats things up more, but the 163 has .500" valve lift vs the 494s~.435 or so (in meatspace, not on paper).
