Hello,
I am installing a Type IV into my '68 912 that I'm currently restoring, I am using the original 901 5 speed . The motor is already built to the specs below.
2056cc
71 stroke, 96 bore, 10:1 comp.
H beam rods, total seal rings, Web-cam(494), Scat lube a lobe lifters
JE lightweight wrist pins, Scat deep sump, 914 windage tray, Modified Berg
oil pump cover, Modified Berg achiever pulley, Jaycee pushrods, solid rocker
spacers, 1.7 rockers, chromoly rocker studs, Dual valve springs and
retainers, Manley spring cups, 44mm intake valves, 38mm exhaust valves,
CB magnaspark ignition system, Treuhaft valve covers and intakes.
44 mm Webers
Thought you guys may not have seen this video. It doesn't go over well in the 911 forums i frequent.
It features Wayne Baker's famous IMSA GTU Series 914/4 racer [featured in September's Panorama] powered by it's original Type IV engine [rebuilt many times].
The current owner Ron Mistak at Laguna Seca in 2011. Watch at around the 5 minute mark when he gets it going..
he was later pulled in for a phantom oil leak. Note the switched electric fans.

I don't know about the cam but it's up there in general for an air cooled motor imo.masterjedi wrote:is 10:1 comp a bit high for a 494 webcam?

Welcome to the STF!
I suspect you have landed in the "right" forums for you.
We love ACVWs and Porches, particularly with T4 power, but we are car guys and don't really care if it has a SBC swap in it, its all in the family, at least in a 914 or other VW/Porsche.
You won't find any "stock nazis" here.
Love to see some pics of your car!
10:1 is likely to be OK on premium with the 494@108 LC, 2L 914 combustion chambers are much better than typical.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
