Gearing up for my first engine build and hoping to find some information. I ran through the forums and it looks like a lot of the information is pretty old. I'm thinking I want to build up a 2056 w/ the 914 2.0L heads. I'm building up a car I can use as a daily driver once I get my degree finished up and with any luck a new job. I'll need it to be able to keep up with traffic on the interstate (80 mph) and also be pretty good around town.
From what I've gathered, I need to get the heads sent off and headflowmasters is the place seems to be the place to send them. Not sure what I need to tell them as far as the head work that needs to be done. It looks like ceramic lifters are mandatory, but not sure of what cam to use. I already have two sets of 40idfs and the fuel injection for the motor, but it seems the more popular size is 44idfs or 40 dellortos.
I think the jugs are OK, so I'll send them to get bored out to the 96mm. I think the AA pistons will be fine for what I'm doing. What do I need to do with the rods and cranks?
I already ordered the jack raby type IV rebuild, so I'm hoping a lot of my questions will be answered. Want to start hunting down parts and getting it ready. Also, if anyone knows of an air cooled machine shop in the waco area I could certainly use the advice!
Thanks
David
