If you do welding on the rods, they will have some distortion, so the big ends will need to be resized and checked for straightness..

I think I'm trying to cut corners where I shouldn't be. I will contact you soon Richard with some questions about prices.

What's your opinions on Mahle forged Pistons? I've read that they are forged, and that they aren't forged. Is there a sure way to tell?

the price. Forged are around $300. Cast are under $200.
Yes Mahle are a nice piston. Not as good as some JE's, but still a quality piece.

I would walk by the JEs if the ~equivalent forged piston was available from Mahle and merrily pay more.craigvwdude wrote:the price. Forged are around $300. Cast are under $200.

Mahle makes rings that fit their pistons in a huge variety of flavors.
JE has been known to make pistons nobody makes rings for.
They do not make rings, or do their research well sometimes.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: 1.8 con rod alternative
I've only seen DRD carry 94mm Mahles, which is why I questioned them. You've said before that weiscos are good, but I don't know what I would do for cylinders. I have no one locally that can do this.
I was trying to cut corners and it really won't pay off. Like with my heads, I was going to try to have someone rebuild them, but for a little bit more I can buy a set done. This is off subject, but where can I find head studs for a stock length type 4?
