I'm curious what gearing you used in your trans? I have a 3:88 ring with .89 4th but I think I'd like to go with the 3:88 and .82 4th. That's based on what it looks like the rpms will be from calculating on the Rancho trans site.

I think it has the same gearing as the late SSC beetle transmission, but with a superdiff and welded 3rd and 4th

Today I fabbed up some T4 into ghia flapper boxes from bus and beetle parts

I still need to sandblast and paint it.
I think this part of the heater should get some kind of wrapping to keep the heat in, i figure fiberglass cloth with some kind of waterproof shell and zip ties. Maybe coating it with long strand fiberglass body filler, I am not sure how that will stand up to heat.

Ceramic coat it. Use the right kind it works surprisingly well, and also protects from rust some.
FG wrap==insta-rust first time it rains.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Good idea but ceramic coating seems like overkill to me, if they rust out in 5-10 years I will make another set with 3 hours of my time. I gave them a quick blast and paint then installed them with no insulation, we will see if they even need it, I can always add it later.

Its Alive!
turned it over without pushrods and spark plugs to fill the oil cooler, once the oil light went out I then dropped in the pushrods and rockers ... adjusted them, then turned it over until full oil pressure, next I added the spark plugs and it started right up first try.
Brought it to 2000-2500 rpm for about two min, then turned it off. No idling at all.
This engine is bushed for T1 Udo lifters with an Engle w130 camshaft.
I like the exhaust note, very civilized, not too loud but sounds "throaty", it could be intake noise.
Next, Tuning the Electromotive EFI

I haven't been able to tune it any further as I am waiting on some smaller 22.9 lb/hr injectors and 1bar map sensor. I am hoping they will come in this week

Clerk, nice work! If i remember I said that Ghia was going to turn into a Porsche, ha! As the T 4 saying goes " You can t understand how a T 4 goes till you drive one". I am waiting to hear what you think after your first ride. Oh and it will only get better. I am on vac. In Stockton, Mass.

Thanks for the praise,
I like it so far, just moving it around with no tuning you get a sense that this thing has some torque, tires chirp and the car wants to GO! It really is begging for a turbocharger ... future project perhaps 8)

I am trying to get it to a dyno asap, however I am having a bit of trouble getting it plated in Quebec, it seems that the rules are a bit different here (I am from Ontario).

Today we got it on a dyno ...
Image
125hp@5500rpm at the wheels, we figure that it is about 140hp at the flywheel

125hp at the wheels is very impressive! Especially through heater boxes!
Well done sir!
