Re: Which Heads?
Bringing this back from the dead, I hope no one minds. Ive searched and searched, this is one of the better threads I have found on Type 4 Head builders. Im building a turbocharged T4 and am trying to feel out all my options. I am trying to decide between sending my original 1.8 heads out to be worked over, or buy a set of heads already done.
Ive contacted HAM, and he didn't want to touch a set of used heads. Sounds like Id have about $2K in a set of their heads.
Going by EMWs price list, Id have about $600 in having my original heads gone over with the work that I want done.
DRDs will set me back at least $1200, I would probably opt for the L5s so $1500.
Brothers Machine Shop told me they wouldn't want to bother working with my original heads, their prices aren't bad for a set of heads.
Im not bringing this back to get an answer on what heads I should go with. Id just like to see what the current consensus is on head shops now. From what ive read (from 5+ yeal old threads) DRD takes forever. Can anyone chime in on this subject?

Re: Which Heads?
How did you get a price on heads from EMW All I get from there web site are longer head studs when I click on the cylinder head option.

Re: Which Heads?
Best way to get info from EMW requires a telephone and talking to Jorge...
They have/can do a LOT more than their website indicates.
RIMCO is also just up the street IIRC, so what cannot be done there can go to RIMCO.
EMW has been doing HiPo T4 motor work/parts since they were first coming off the showroom floor..

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
